What is Discord?
Last verified: Oct 14, 2026
Discord is a chat app used by gamers. It's organized into "servers" (communities with text and voice channels) plus direct messages. The minimum age is 13.
How it works
- Anyone can create a server, and each server sets its own rules and moderators.
- Family Center lets a linked parent see activity, such as new friends and servers joined, but not message content.
What parents should know
- DMs and friend requests from strangers.
- Server content depends on that server's owners.
None of this means the platform is unsafe by default. It's why the controls exist and why they're worth ten minutes to set up.
Why it's rated the way it is
App-store ratings describe the app. Server content is user-generated.
